Corvian Scales Agricultural Intelligence with Elastic on Google Cloud

Billions of data points

With Elastic, Corvian ingests up to billions of data points every hour from weather stations, satellite imagery, soil analysis, and farm machinery.

99.9% uptime

Elastic provides 99.9% uptime to keep valuable alerts and data available to customers when they need it.

$1 million saved year over year

Corvian saves significant costs by working with Elastic and freeing up internal resources to focus on developing and optimizing services.

Corvian brings stability and scalability to agronomic data, ingesting up to billions of data points every hour to improve farming productivity and agricultural reporting, from field to enterprise.

Agriculture is one of the oldest and most complex industries in the world. Farmers traditionally rely on generations of experience to understand crops, land, and weather. But times have changed, and technology presents a unique opportunity to improve upon these practices. Corvian sits at the intersection of agronomy, technology, and data, helping agribusinesses integrate field-level insights and complex datasets to deliver more efficient, sustainable, and auditable outcomes across agricultural production.

What does data do for agriculture? Imagine testing soil nutrition levels across acres of land and identifying exactly how much nitrogen plots need or analyzing satellite imagery to monitor crop growth. Corvian integrates billions of data points from weather networks, satellite imagery, soil measurements, and farm equipment to create a unified view of agricultural systems. By organizing and analyzing complex agricultural data sets, Corvian enables agribusinesses and food companies to make better decisions across production, supply chains, and sustainability initiatives.

"We're using data to support agricultural enterprises and the farmers they work with," explains Manoj Regmi, Vice President of Technology at Corvian. "Companies across the agriculture and food supply chain use our platform to analyze complex datasets and make better decisions. For example, buyers can use our dashboards to compare datasets and identify the most sustainable producers. It's helping bring greater transparency and better outcomes across the agricultural system."

Intelligence is what sets Corvian apart, and that requires reliable and stable data pipelines. Corvian's core services rely on Elasticsearch and Elastic Observability deployed through Elastic Cloud, running on Google Cloud to turn complex farming data into insights that yield more bountiful and sustainable crops. This allows Corvian to scale efficiently in a way not possible with legacy systems.

"Migrating from a self-managed open source deployment to Elastic Cloud was a game changer for us. We observed query performance increase by 40% in one of the clusters with more than 99.9% uptime in the cloud."

– Kelly Boswell, Head of Cloud Engineering and Cybersecurity, Corvian

Building on a foundation of reliability and stability

Before adopting Elastic, Corvian's teams spent significant time managing infrastructure challenges associated with ingesting and querying massive volumes of agricultural data. As data volumes and platform usage grew, the company looked for a more scalable solution.

Corvian has always invested in building robust data infrastructure to support its agricultural intelligence platform. As the company's data volumes and enterprise customer base grew, the team proactively evaluated options to further strengthen scalability and operational efficiency.

Corvian initially deployed an open source version of Elastic and quickly recognized the performance benefits for ingesting and retrieving massive datasets. Building on that early success, the team progressively upgraded, first to managed services and then to Elastic Cloud, to unlock additional capabilities while maintaining Corvian's high standards for reliability and security.

With Elastic Cloud's built-in orchestration, teams can make changes to clusters with a click of a button rather than spending time on manual node management. This frees up Corvian's engineers to focus on higher-value work like Agentic workflows, and AI Agents and AIOps.

"We're a relatively small team and manage large infrastructures, ML pipelines, models, and more. By taking maintenance off our plate, we're better prepared to keep growing and improving," says Boswell.

Protecting agricultural data at every layer

Data security is foundational to Corvian's platform. Agricultural data, including field-level soil analysis, yield information, and proprietary agronomic inputs, is highly sensitive, and customers rely on Corvian to keep it protected. Elastic Cloud's built-in security features complement Corvian's own security practices. Running on Google Cloud adds additional layers of protection through infrastructure-level security.

Managing billions of data points

Today, Corvian ingests and manages up to billions of points of data every hour. Data volumes can change quickly depending on factors such as growing seasons and weather. Systems scale quickly to handle spikes in demand no matter how much data is coming in. This means that vital agronomic data is available to customers whenever they need it.

One Corvian product monitors weather for hail and sends alerts to growers in the area. During one major hailstorm, millions of alerts were generated over the course of two hours. The system stayed online, providing vital updates to help growers understand what impact the storm had on their crops and what steps they should take next.

"Weather events can generate massive, unpredictable spikes in demand. The flexibility of Elastic Cloud means we scale instantly to meet those surges and deliver data to people when they need it most," says Boswell.

"With Elastic Cloud and Google Cloud together, we put data to work for our customers and deliver services designed for the complex, changing world of agriculture — where climate uncertainty, precision farming, and evolving regulations demand infrastructure that scales as fast as the challenges do."

– Manoj Regmi, Vice President of Technology, Corvian

Customers also feel the impact of the scale through growth. Corvian can now onboard new customers or expand services for customers quickly. Corvian's Site Reliability Engineering can spin up new clusters in minutes, allowing customers to start working with new features faster to translate data into agricultural insights.

Corvian operates primarily in Google Cloud, using Kubernetes clusters for excellent performance and scalability. Data flows into BigQuery where it's processed by AI models running on the Vertex AI stack.

"Operating in Google Cloud provides stability and top AI capabilities without any downtime," says Regmi. "With Google Cloud and Elastic together, we put data to work for our customers and deliver services designed for the complex, changing world of agriculture."

Bringing agricultural insights to the world

Corvian provides agricultural intelligence to enterprises across the agriculture and food supply chain. By translating complex agronomic data into actionable insights, the platform helps organizations make better decisions across production, sustainability, and supply-chain operations at scale.

Looking ahead, Corvian is expanding its use of Elastic to power AIOps, agentic workflows, deep log analytics, and SIEM-grade security monitoring across our platform — helping CPG brands, biofuel producers, and insurance/finance partners rely on real-time, trusted field-level intelligence to manage risk, optimize supply, and validate sustainability at scale.
